I’d say more like in the way that Mario is great fun to play, with perfect controls and flawless level design, whereas Tail of the Sun is the polar opposite of those things.

Not sure I'd call it anti-Mario. Maybe in the same way that Tetris is anti-Mario, as in it's not similar in any way. But great that more people will get to play it! Aquanaut's Holiday... I think I like the idea of it more than I like actually playing it, but still cool.
