It doesn't look like much now, but was innovative in the very early days of fighters. According to hardcoregaming101:

the first fighter to feature multiple playable characters with individual movesets and properties.

It also introduced:

block damage
air blocking
projectile attacks
a modern "analog" health bar (as opposed to a health meter comprised of notches)
the ability to execute multiple attacks while airborne
and attacks of varying levels of strength.

And doing all that while coming out 2 years before Street Fighter, and 6 years before Street Fighter II.

I’d say more like in the way that Mario is great fun to play, with perfect controls and flawless level design, whereas Tail of the Sun is the polar opposite of those things.

It reminds me of Cyborg Justice on the Megadrive..I remember being hyped for that game for months prior to release, then disappointed it didn't live up to expectations.

Those models are up there with the monsters from Linda Cubed...or the original manual? Honestly find the problematic controls and bugs of the demake on-par with the jankiness of the CD-i version, and in both cases an engine overhaul would result in a very, very good game. (Not unlike the E.T. overhaul.)

@hste Oh ya the play and charge kit was garbage. I had several so my friends and I could play multiplayer Halo together. They didn't last a year, or about a year. I went back to batteries and then to rechargeable ones.

I'm still death gripping an OG wired 360 controller on my PC. I'm actively looking for a backup wired controller. Clicky dpads are no-go for me.

@hste The brook adapters are awesome. I use one on my 360 all the time. I'm not sure most third party controllers are inferior to current Xbox & PS2 controllers, though. I have a bunch of Chinese ones that pretty much blow them out of the water in nigh-on every way possible. Especially when it comes to Xbox controllers; they've been lacking for me ever since the Xbox One pads.

I could see these being slightly more palatable if they didn’t need three AAA batteries apiece. Both the Game Boy Pocket and Game Boy Color each only needed two, and they’re nearly 30 years old.

@JoakimZ They are all getting re-released, thankfully! Reissues of vol 1, 2 and 3 are coming out very soon so if you missed out you can grab them.

Either way, even without any of the add on carts, it has 40 games built in.

@h3s I think just that, Lufia II and Breath of Fire II.
As to turn-based RPGs, I easily forget about the dungeon crawler Might & Magic II. The only one I think that was PAL-exclusive (I've read Japan got a completely different port by a different developer and North America didn't get the game at all on Nintendo hardware. We got its predecessor on NES and its sequel on SNES.)

I'm so burned out by these things.
It was fun in the beginning, before these companies started to flood the market, with endless re-releases of the same titles, in different forms.
I love Space Invaders, but enough already.
Wonder how long they can keep milking this, before the cow is dead. 🤣

There have been over a thousand conversions to the GX4000 now, CPCwiki has the details if you're interested. Obviously this is something altogether different than a CPC port, but worth mentioning.

I wish there was a GX4000 Everdrive equivalent that was actually available. There are some homebrew devices but the manufacturing run is tiny and then of course prices are nuts once they get on ebay.

For those on a tighter budget, I bought a couple of DataFrog 360 wireless pads from AliExpress. At £8 each, shipped, the quality is amazing. The button, stick, and trigger feel is great. They feel well made, too.

@Santar there are controller converters like a brook wingman; at least those will let you use dualshocks or series controllers that are probably a lot better than most thirdparty ones.

I don't really understand what's going on in that video but I like it, kind of reminds me of those sort of dark and aggressively weird gaming ads from back in the day. And I'm pretty much only "familiar" with Doshin the Giant so should be interesting

I bought Retro Fighters' BrawerGen controller years ago and I was very disappointed with it. With so many other companies making very good controllers, I never considered buying another controller from Retro Fighters.
