It's an intetesting project. It's pretty cool that it has a better graphical processing method than past 8-bit consoles.

Time will tell if this console gains a cult following. There is a strong homebrew community cranking out games for the Atari 2600. Even a very decent port of Lode Runner was made. The 2600 wasn't just made with limited graphics capability, it was also bottlenecked (to save in production costs). The GameTank won't require weird sprite trickery to make a game. With its superior graphics capabilities, it's possible some talented devs out there could really push the unit to its limit and make some incredible games.

Also, this is one more console that nicely packaged games can be made for. I'll never miss opening a boxed game that comes with a cool manual or maps or posters.

Firstly, gotta correct this, as it's Real Journalism™: this isn't "faux-retro", it's actual retro: imitative of vintage things. The gaming culture misuses the term retro constantly for vintage things, but things like CupHead, Shredder's Revenge, etc are ACTUAL retro games. What the gaming culture misnames as "retro", what they mean 95% of the time is vintage or antique games and gear.

Now the GameTank? This is ACTUAL retro hardware, imitative of the 80s style hardware, and I'm REALLY excited for what we will see from it. Using the 6502 makes ports of code from NES/Fami, TG16, Apple II, etc software pretty easy. And devs have a LOT of experience with that CPU architecture.

The only miss here is not have RGB output: all my vintage consoles have RGB output at this point.

Will developers want to make a specific indie game work with this technology and with different upgrades to new tech to make homebrew games occurring a lot will this tech get outdated eventually? With console specific games developers know they have to keep to limitations but with homebrew developers they might not want to feel constricted by how the hardware of this console operates.
